In order to improve the effectiveness and efficiency of our communications, we follow three basic steps:
[1] we ORGANIZE and structure inputs accordingly to predefined exchange-flows, or types, which: (a) have a clear intent, so that recipients can quickly understand what’s required or expected from them; (b) have a concise and pertinent content, so that each party can focus on salient information; and (c) facilitate the follow through and convergence toward the communication end-goal.
[2] Then we PRIORITIZE. Whether that be chronological or related to prominence, in the field of communication priority can always be expressed in terms of how urgently the recipient needs to pay attention to an input. So, our algorithm simply identifies how quickly messages, inputs, or requests need to be addressed or responded.
[3] And finally, we DELIVER. Inputs are presented at the most appropriate time—consistently with their level of urgency and the recipient’s preferences/ situation.
